For the chief of this neighborhood has been bitten by a snake or is afflicted.” A man among them said, “Yes.” He came to him and treated him with the opening chapter of the Book, and the man was cured. He was then given a flock of sheep, but he refused to accept it, saying: “Until I mention this to the Prophet, peace be upon him.” So he went to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and mentioned it to him. The Prophet said: “O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not recite anything but the opening chapter of the Book.” The Prophet smiled and said, “How did you know that it was a healing recitation?” Then he said: “Take some from them, and give me a share of it.” In another narration: “With this chain of transmission.” And he said in the hadith: “So he began to recite the Mother of the Qur’an, gathering his saliva and spitting it out, and the man was cured.” Narrated by Muslim in his Sahih.
